Buttery Noodles with Cabbage also known as Haluski, is a simple yet flavorful recipe.

When my mom moved to the United States from Mexico, she decided to attend a community college and take an English as a second language class. She made many friends there. Some she still keeps in touch with today. Lena, her friend from Poland, was a wonderful cook. She taught my mom how to cook many simple and flavorful Polish dishes. In return, my mom taught her how to cook many popular Mexican dishes, including tortillas, tamales and pozole.

One of those dishes Lena taught my mom was Haluski. Buttery noodles with cabbage. We called them Lena’s noodles. The recipe is one of the easiest I’ve ever prepared but the result is heavenly. It’s also a great way to get my son to eat cabbage. The secret to these great-tasting noodles is the melted butter added at the end of the cooking process that brings together the cabbage, onion and noodles. This was a perfect dish for me to cook with Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil and Sea Salt. It’s rich, creamy and full of flavor.

Description

So flavorful and one of the easiest recipes out there.  Buttery noodles with cabbage.  Also known as Haluski.


Ingredients

Scale

2 teaspoons cooking oil

1 small onion, sliced in strips

½ head cabbage, cored and shredded with a knife

¼ cup water

8 ounces egg noodles, cooked

3 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil and Sea Salt

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

Heat oil over medium heat in a large saucepan. Add onion and stir until onion begins to brown; about 3 minutes. Stir in cabbage. Add water and stir until cabbage begins to soften; about 7 minutes. Stir in noodles. Add butter with olive oil and sea salt and stir until it melts. Season with salt and pepper. Serve.
