Creamy Mashed Potatoes for your Holiday Menu

It’s time to start thinking of the Thanksgiving menu. I will be sharing a few potato recipes this month to include in your holiday spread and I thought I’d start with everyone’s favorite and a classic, mashed potatoes.

These creamy mashed potatoes are ready in less than 30 minutes and can be the last thing you prep for your dinner. You can either peel or not peel these potatoes. It’s your preference if you like the peel texture in your potatoes. I still can’t decide which I prefer, so I alternate every year.

One thing is for sure, your family and friends will fall in love with these no-frills mashed potatoes. Make plenty because you will definitely be asked for seconds and thirds.

Description

This creamy mashed potatoes recipe is easy, quick and delicious. You will love the buttery taste with a hint of cream.

Ingredients

Scale

3 pounds Russet potatoes (peeled or unpeeled, your preference)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter (plus 2 pats of butter for garnish)

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup sour cream, creme fraiche or Mexican crema

garlic salt to taste

freshly cracked black pepper to taste

fresh or dried chives for garnish

Instructions

Combine potatoes, salt and enough water to cover in a large pot over medium heat. Boil for 20 minutes or until potatoes are soft enough to mash. Drain, return potatoes to the pot and mash with a potato masher.

While potatoes cook, combine butter and milk in a small saucepan over low heat.  Stir until butter melts completely. Add butter/milk mixture to potatoes and stir.  Add sour cream, season with salt and pepper. Place warm mashed potatoes in a serving dish, top with pats of butter and a sprinkle of chives. Serve.
