Outdoor Snack Ideas for Summer

Our summer vacation has started and we’ve perfected the art of having fun outside. How about that?! Although it’s so quick and easy to just hand off a tablet or a TV remote control to the kids, we decided there will be none of that on our summer break this year. Early on, we vowed to ourselves to continuously create experiences instead of having things that encourage sedentary behavior.
We’ve signed up our son for a couple of activity camps. One camp will focus strictly on outdoor activities like pool day, hoola-hoop day and sports day. Another camp will focus on art and fun craft projects outdoors. There are, however, a few weeks during summer break when my son will be home. We want to make those weeks are just as fun and action-packed as if he were spending it at summer camp. It’s becoming a tradition and my son will always remember these summer days spent outdoors.
Because my husband and I work from home, the fun outdoor activities will have to take place in our backyard. If the neighborhood kids are available, we will invite them over and have various activities set out for them. This past weekend, we had fun with bubbles. Bubble wands are inexpensive and can be found at grocery stores in the novelty section. While you’re at it, make sure you pick up some snack essentials to keep the kids energized during play.
Yummy Dino Buddies are a great main protein for the lunch or snack box. Not only are they packed with protein and Omega-3, but they are dinosaur-shaped 100% chicken breast nuggets. Plus they’re made without with no antibiotics and 100% natural. antibiotics, trans fat, preservatives, hormones or artificial ingredients.
With a little creativity, your outdoor snacks can be fun and with minimal prep. Colorful and healthy foods such as grapes, carrots, all berries, nuts and nut spreads can make a delicious and popular snack box. A good rule of thumb when packing a meal is to think of it as packing a rainbow of foods to go with your Yummy Dino Buddies.
To keep your kid’s interest, you can always go a step beyond and create fruit skewers, hummus jars with dipping veggies and banana-peanut butter sushi as I did with my son’s snack box.
Remember to keep plenty of water and juices around. The hot summer sun will be intense and dehydrating. Ice is always a good idea to keep beverages cool.
By keeping these simple summer traditions going year after year, your family will create new memories. Keep them fun by changing up the activities according to your children’s age. This will keep them entertained and avoid boredom. To find a summer camp in your budget, check your city’s parks and recreation department. They always have great events and programs going on during the summer.
