Kid-Style Hummus Ideas

What do you do when you have a bunch of hungry kids on a beautiful, warm spring day in California? You have a fun, unofficial meal with a hummus dipping outdoor party!
With Sabra‘s variety of hummus, picky kids are no match for the endless options of hummus flavors, toppings and vessels. With that said, our Saturday afternoon turned into a “customize your own hummus” meal. I challenged my son and nieces to prepare their own unofficial meal. To make it even more fun, they were required to name their creation as well. Boy, did we have fun!
Searching through the pantry and refrigerator, they found their favorite toppings such as olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, pecans, roasted pepitas, and even chopped cucumbers and pickles. I fried up some chorizo and caramelized some onions for my own dipping pleasure too. I wanted to be in on the fun as well!
Names such as “The Nutty Dip” (pecans and slivered almond topping), “Lemony delight” (lemon juice and lemon zest) and “Stinky Friend” (blue cheese and pine nuts), were some of the names shouted out as they sampled each others dips.
What to dip with? We had plenty! Pretzel rods, crackers, tortilla chips, potato chips, crudite and pita halves. I even caught my son dipping his finger in his “lemony delight” creation he made with Sabra’s New Lemon Twist hummus.
The unofficial meal is a now a game changer in our home. It’ has now made its way into our weekend menu time and time again and yes, our lunch and dinner menus as well. An impromptu meal doesn’t have to be dull, boring and bland. Not only did we enjoy a better-for-you meal with Sabra Hummus but we also created a family tradition that the entire family will cherish from now on.
