Agua de Frutas
Keep Cool with an Agua de Frutas this Spring
One of my favorite aguas frescas as a child was agua de frutas. A pink, creamy, refreshing drink loaded with colorful pieces of fruit and served cold or over ice. This was my go-to drink during my mercado trips with my grandmother every Friday. This was particularly longed for during the summer months of my elementary years. Luckily, there was an aguas frescas stand on every corner on our way to the bus stop.
There really is no specific fruit to make agua de frutas with. It’s what you have handy in your fruit bowl. I used bananas, apples, mangoes, strawberries and a dragon fruit I had been saving for a special occasion. I think this drink is pretty special so it was time to use it up.

Agua de frutas makes a great beverage for an outdoor gathering and it’s the perfect, easy way to use up fruit that might be in danger of going bad. It’s festive, colorful and kids and adults love it.
With outdoor picnics, barbecues and parties coming up soon, ditch the artificially flavored beverages and serve something natural and refreshing. What are your go-to fruits for the perfect agua de frutas?
