My time in the kitchen can be pretty extensive. I try to make the best out of it when my son and nieces are curious when I’m cooking. Whenever the opportunity arises, I involve the kids in the preparation and cooking process.
Whether it is mixing batter, tossing a salad or frosting a cupcake, I try to make the entire moment a learning experience. In light of Earth Day next week, we’ve started to talk about conserving water when we rinse fruits and vegetables. We’ve also discussed that there are easy ways water can be conserved when the children wash their hands, brush their teeth and take a shower.

It’s very important to teach them to turn off the faucet when not in use and making them understand that small actions can make a big difference.

Earth day should be celebrated every day. In our home, water is treated as precious resource. When I discover products making an effort to conserve natural resources, I like to spread the word about the work they are doing. Silk, makers of almond, soy and coconut milk is making an effort to conserve water. Because it takes water to manufacture their products. Silk conserves enough water to offset the equivalent to 500 teeth brushing sessions, 20 showers or more than 10 loads of laundry.

Starting April 4, Silk will be celebrating the joy that water brings to so many lives over at their website. Here you can view a series of animated short videos that will inspire, celebrate and educate about the importance of conserving water for the future. Don’t forget to share the videos. For every “share” Silk will donate $1 to The Nature Conservancy. You can also share your fun water filled moments with the hashtag #yaywater and have a chance to win some great prizes.

Join me in celebrating earth day by cooking with your kids and teaching them all about water conservation. We prepared these refreshing kid-friendly piña coladas with creamy Silk Coconut Milk during our lesson today and we enjoyed every last drop.
